Team Euphemia Haye – Turning Type 1 into Type None

Why we walk…

Our number 1 reason to walk is for our daughter, Kate who was diagnosed in 2001 at the age of 21 with Type 1 Diabetes; just a month before she graduated from college and a year and a half before she and Rob were married. We also walk for our nephew, Parker, who was diagnosed at the age of 12, Ray’s late brother had been diagnosed in his early 20’s and Ray’s late father who was also diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. We walk for our loved ones struggling with this disease and for many others like them.

In 2002 we began to raise funds and attempt to educate others that Juvenile or Type I Diabetes is an autoimmune disease, and that it takes insulin and testing to remain alive. It is not a disease they will grow out of; it is a disease that 80 or more children and adults will be diagnosed with everyday. WE WANT A CURE!

Over the years, we have sponsored events and provided proceeds from Euphemia Haye events to JDRF. We have the most fun, though, with the Walk for a Cure. Though we still attend the Lakewood Ranch walk, we’ve spun off our own little rogue walk right here on Longboat Key! Throughout these efforts, and with your help and generosity, we have been able to give over two hundred thousand dollars for research. You would be amazed by what that has accomplished! Managing the disease has drastically improved over the last few years. People with Type 1 are living longer, fuller lives and that is thanks to the doctors, researchers, and those, like you, who support them and their work. The next step, the big hope, is to turn Type 1 into Type None.

It is possible, with your help!

Why should you walk? Maybe Kate can help you decide!

Team Euphemia Haye

Donate to this Team: Please send your check payable to JDRF to the restaurant – 5540 Gulf of Mexico Drive, Longboat Key FL 34228. Don’t forget to write Team Euphemia Haye on the memo line OR you can go online to and donate directly through Team Euphemia Haye!

Becoming a Walker:  As a walker you will be seeking donations from your friends and family and then walking in our 5K walk, April 22 at 9:00 a.m. at the lovely Joan M. Durante Park right next to the restaurant. Each of our walk team members is expected to raise more than $100.00. If your friends, family, and business associates each give you $10.00 you can exceed the $100 very easily. We are hoping to raise $20,000 this year, so we REALLY need to do our best to collect some funds! There are a lot of great online tools we can put to use.

Please go to to Register to walk with Euphemia Haye! You must register and sign off on the waiver. Ignore the information under “Walk Details” – we will be doing our own rogue walk at Joan M. Durante Park on April 22 at 9:00 a.m.

A big thank you to the Observer Group for sharing this awesome video of Kate Arpke Houle (Chef Ray and D’Arcy’s daughter) doing a warm-up for her silk performance at the 2014 Walk. See, you never know what you’re going to get to experience when you come to a JDRF Walk…especially with Team Euphemia Haye!
